Hip Mama Diaper Bag

Elizabeth is expecting a baby in November and we'd say her nesting instinct has definitely kicked in! This modern messenger-style diaper bag is just one of the many things she's sewn for the new arrival. More below the jump...

Explain how Amy Butler inspired this entry:
I find Amy Butler's fabrics incredibly inspirational. In this case, I used one of her "Nigella" home dec-weight prints to make a messenger-style diaper bag. I have also used "Little Stitches For Little Ones" for a bunch of nursery-related projects, including the matching roll-up changing pad that tucks neatly inside the diaper bag. Other patterns I've made from this book: the crib skirt (visible in the background of the first photo), the cheeky monkey laundry bag, the kimono pajamas, the cutie booties, and the comfy jumper dress. I'm all set for the arrival of my little girl (due November 4)!

How did you make your project and what items did you use?: I designed the bag myself, and have put together a tutorial that is available on my blog. The bag is lined with water-resistant vinyl to keep things tidy, and includes a lot of interior and exterior pockets. I bought the Amy Butler fabric and the lining fabric locally here in Houston. The changing pad pattern is in "Little Stitches For Little Ones," and the pad is lined with terry cloth from Jo-Ann Fabrics.
