Getaway: A Home in Bali

Getaway: A Home in Bali

Aug 1, 2008

As AT has oft-noted: you don't need kids to be inspired by Cookie or even a current issue. In honor of Getaway month, here are some highlights from a previous Nesting home tour that's real escapism, at least for most of us. Location: Bali.

Sure, it's about as far from our home in good ol' Minneapolis as you can get. That's why these photos feel like a laptop-bound vacation. No jealousy here whatsoever... honest. But we are thinking the tropics come January.

Once the wow settles, this Bali home has lessons any of us can take away. Even if we never get there.

Applicable: repetition and a controlled palette lets multi-woods rule.
Applicable: Clever use of reclaimed wood, including salvaged electrical poles as beams.
Applicable: Create interest in a corner.
Applicable: Draping airy fabric panels from simple lines at ceiling height.
