Blogging the Oregonian: Unexpected Ranch

We wonder if the unexpected-ness of this home, featured in the Oregonian last week, comes from its situation behind a screen of bamboo and Japanese maples. Or it might be the hidden potential of the formerly shag-carpeted 1958 home among the older craftsman's in the surrounding neighborhood. Expected or not, the result of homeowners Scott and Rebecca Sonniksen's redesign is awesome to look at.

Scott is an artist and collector, and his own works are displayed prominently throughout the home. The article describes how Scott's good taste is matched and tempered by his wife's skill in editing the treasures for display. Case in point: the colorful dish set atop a cube light side table.

Being prone to collection ourselves, we think this home demonstrates some useful techniques for display, like the pottery wall and painted nook.
