Blogging...Time Out New York

After making the magazine table, we decided to purge any old magazine issues we still had. But before we tossed them in the recycling bin, we came upon this 2006 "TONY" article with 28 re-purposed furniture finds.

"Rigged out with hope, garbage-truck schedules and a few gallons of hand sanitizer" Linda and John Meyers, of Wary Meyers Decorative Arts, patrolled New York for looking for sidewalk cast-offs. Check out the 28 pieces of furniture in the October 2006 article that were fixed up before being auctioned off for charity...and pick up some great DIY restoration tips, like how to make a vintage sofa more modern looking by adding "chrome" legs. (Really just silver paper affixed to wood blocks!)

The milk carton pendant fixture is an A+. (Though we can't help but be reminded of the kid whose locker had to be cleaned out by the janitor because he left his chocolate milk in it over the weekend.) Another one of our favorites is a rustic chair that was missing a rung. TONY replaced the one piece with Lucite. Love the charming combo of modern meets rustic.

They raised nearly $4,000 for Housing Works—and it seems some of the pieces were auctioned of at affordable prices. If they ever do another auction, I'm there!
