Good Questions: Hotels in Mexico City?

Hello AT, I am going to Mexico City this fall for Day of the Dead and I am trying to find a comfortable space that is in a safe and convenient area of the city where I won't feel over run by other tourists (some are okay, but I'd like to stay away from the big box hotels that are so expensive and cater to people who don't come to Mexico to actually SEE Mexico, but just to hang out by the pool all day)...

...I'm throwing this out to AT because even on vacation you look for a home away from home, and I have faith that you won't steer me towards anything that is too gaudy/tacky and 70's or 80's in d├ęcor. Not super-modern is okay, I'd rather have the flavor of Mexico than the flavor of NY circa 1982.

For some reference, here is where I'm staying in Oaxaca.

Thanks!

RosesLaw,

Since we found the B&B we love in Puerto Vallarta via TripAdvisor, we took a quick look and found several places that sound great.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for RosesLaw?
