Good Questions: Chrome or Brushed Finish?

Good Questions: Chrome or Brushed Finish?

AT reader Kristina writes in with a question about the merits of matching your kitchen hardware above with the faucet finish down below [chuckle]:
I'm on the brink of a kitchen renovation and have purchased everything except the faucet and cabinet hardware because I am having trouble deciding whether to use a chrome or brushed finish. Originally I planned to use a brushed finish for everything, but my first choice faucet is only available in chrome. What kind of design impact will chrome finishes have versus something like satin nickel? Is it necessary for the faucet finish to match all the cabinet hardware?

For reference, our new kitchen will have walnut floors, white shaker cabinets, a white subway tile backsplash, and honed black granite countertops. We live in a loft space and would ultimately like to create a kitchen with solid traditional bones and a few contemporary touches.
