Must Read: The Chumby

This was first covered on Unplggd, but I'm bringing it back for AT readers

For Monday, check out this little thing that's about to bring technology into your home in a brand new way. Imagine a soft, bedside presence that wakes you up, gives you the surf report, and then shows you the first posts going up on AT that morning. While all of this may seem trivial (and it IS), the creativity and the thinking behind this device is very cool. There's possibility here...

The Chumby is a small peripheral device with a touch screen embedded into a soft, squishy container that connects to your home wireless network and allows various widgets (that you choose) to populate its screen. Unlike so many tech devices out there, this one wants to be at YOUR service and do what you tell it. As David Pogue says, "this weird little invention is amorphous, flexible and freaky."

If you want the best descriptions, read these:

>> Chumby on Unplggd (Kelly)
>> A Bean Bag That Delivers Web Widgets (David Pogue, NYTimes)

If you want to know what Chumby says, read this:

We started our home tech site, Unplggd, specifically to cover the growing presence of technology in the home. Personally, I love the creativity with which people are designing tech for this space and think that there's going to be great growth in this area in the next few years. The Chumby is a perfect example of the new inventiveness. Even if it's not for you, I urge you to check it out so that you know what is going on.
