Northwest #13: Matt and Kevin's Dark, Saturated Colors

Oct 10, 2008

Name: Matt and Kevin
Location: San Francisco, CA
Type of Home: Apartment
What inspired you to use color? Like Apartment Therapy, I like to draw inspiration from many different sources. While pictures in magazines and catalogs are very useful, so is browsing in fabric stores or paying attention to beautiful decor in restaurants. Whenever I encounter a striking use of color somewhere, I keep it in mind for future projects. And I find that the more color I bring into my apartment, the happier and more welcoming it becomes...

Color Tip: Don't be afraid of color. When I started painting dark, saturated colors on the walls, I was a little nervous at first. But once I put my things back into the space, I found everything looked better against the walls. When I look at my "before" pictures, I am amazed at how much better the rooms look now. And, of course, if a color doesn't eventually grow on you, you can always paint over it.

Colors Used: Ralph Lauren: Golden Yellow (IB73). Benjamin Moore: Hudson Bay (1680), Eagle Rock (1469), Yin Yang (824), Deep Space (2125-20).
