Solar Shoji Lanterns on Montague Street

Solar Shoji Lanterns on Montague Street

They popped up on Earth Day back in April. On Montague Street, the struggling commercial street in Brooklyn Heights, green shoji lanterns were installed by the Montague Street Business Improvement District. Each little lantern is powered by a solar cell, which gives each green sphere a faint glow come evening...

The lamps are a terrific addition to the street, where they hang in every third tree or so for a stretch of about three blocks. The plan was for the green globes to come down by Memorial Day, but they're still there. We're happy with their presence, even if they aren't glowing anymore.

If you visit the street and like the look, you can find out more about getting your own solar lanterns here. (photo via The Brooklyn Paper)
