Taking the Cheap Gift of Mix CDs Up a Notch

Taking the Cheap Gift of Mix CDs Up a Notch

If you're strapped for cash this holiday season (and really, who isn't?), the option to make your closest friends and family (or at least the ones who subscribe to the idea that it's the thought that counts) Mix CDs of tunes customized just for them is a cheap and easy gift. But we know it's hard to make them truly look good and not just like you scribbled a Sharpie marker over an Office Depot logo...

The CD packaging kit from Fred Flare is a way for you to take your favorite burned mixes and transform them into giftable vintage vinyl. The kit includes 25 CD labels with 5 designs plus 25 CD sleeves w/ dozens of stickers.

We know it seems counter-intuitive to suggest buying a $17 CD packaging kit to supplement your Mix CD gift, especially since you're probably giving the gift because you're broke anyways, But this idea becomes free if you use it as inspiration to DIY your own retro packaging by printing out designs onto CD sleeve templates (like the one we mentioned in our post on free printable organizing tools) and printing and assembling them yourself.
