Western Digital Enters The HD Media Streaming Battle Royale

We've been keeping a keen eye on this newly announced Western Digital TV HD Media Player box these past few days. Being known for mostly being a hard drive manufacturer, it's surely a first and we'd like to see how other media streaming solutions from bigger companies, such as Apple and Vudu, are going to react with the release of these incredibly convenient and easy-to-use streaming boxes.

To use the streaming box, you merely plug in your USB key or USB hard drive and you'll immediately be able to play all major formats over HDMI or composite in 1080p. Kind of takes the fun out of streaming and poking around your computer, don't it?

The dimensions for the unit are 1.6- x 4.9- x 3.9-inches, small enough to shove into a drawer with a few holes for the wires... wait, the remote. Right. Anyway, while adding yet another box might not seem like such a great idea to some of you, perhaps the $129.99 will.
