Dorm furniture used to mean one of those saucer chairs, some bead curtains, and calling it a day. Today's undergrads, however, are stepping their decor game up–and the rest of us are benefiting. Take, for example, Amazon's daily deal for August 27 on back-to-school furniture. It includes deals as steep as 58 percent off on some great home basics. While some of the sales pieces scream "first off-campus kitchen," a few are inexpensive basics that can give your home a quick upgrade. Here are three great finds we're eyeing:
Ameriwood Home Marshall 3-Shelf Metal Rolling Utility Cart, Teal Finish, $29 (usually $54)
There's an almost endless list of fun ways you can add this to small spaces: It can be an extra shelf for the bookworm always short on space, a small-footprint bar cart, or bathroom storage. And if you change your mind, it's easy to swap it out–just wheel it to its new location.
Novogratz Brittany Sofa Futon, $185 (normally $285)
Novogratz is one of the best brands on Amazon for couches under $500. This one also does double-duty as a futon. While some reviews note that it's not the coziest thing in the world, at under $200 currently, it's an inexpensive way to add furniture to a space you don't want to invest a ton of money into. Teen bedrooms, living rooms that don't get a ton of foot traffic, and even guest bedrooms that may need to accomdate more guests are all great spots.
Ameriwood Home Haven Retro Desk with Riser, $42 (normally $75)
A small desk like this can be a great solution to "office areas" that don't get a lot of use (like the corner of the bedroom where you need to organize bills but never actually use your laptop since that's what a couch is for.) At just under 2 feet wide, it can also be a good hallway entry solution with extra storage thanks to the stacked design.
