When Abbie Naber and her husband Malik moved into their home just two short years ago, it was a forgotten stucco’d-over mid-century ranch home in need of some love. With a budding career in interior design, Abbie took on their new home renovation as a design challenge and the surprisingly speedy process resulted in a stunning, airy, coastal beauty that has helped catapult her internet presence and establish her now successful design business.

Abbie and Malik’s home is located in Cardiff by the Sea, which, if you’re unfamiliar, is a charming little town just north of San Diego. Abbie chose a design scheme that complemented her family’s cheerful seaside setting, which includes a retractable dining room wall and floor-to-ceiling adjacent windows to invite in all that free sun and salty air. A striking ombre blue accent wall amidst sandy neutral (get the wallpaper here) reflects the colors of the beach and endless blue sky. The rest of the home has an eclectic vibe, which is accented by various local art, vintage knick-knacks, plenty of plants, and her own global pillow line.

My Style: A true style mutt: a mix of modern, Scandinavian, eclectic, bohemian, and global all fused into one! I love neutrals, and I’m a sucker for layering textures and patterns!

Inspiration: My travels, mixes of patterns. Australian interior design. Designers that I look up to: Leanne Ford, Sarah Sherman Samuel, Jessica Helgerson, Natalie Meyers.

Favorite Element: A tie between the master bathroom renovation (graphic cement tile and repurposed mid-century credenza) and last summer’s addition (a dining room with a watercolor mural and wood paneled ceiling)

Biggest Challenge: Closet space in this 1960s original! I’m always having to purge to keep a grip on things!

What Friends Say: They love coming over and hanging in the indoor/outdoor dining space.

Proudest DIY: Not so crazy of a “DIY,” but I’m really proud of my art gallery wall. I patiently acquired the right art over time, and tried to find small artists to support. I love the way it came together!

Biggest Indulgence: Tile and wallpaper. Two of my favorite things that give so much personality to a space!

Best Advice: “Don’t be so hard on yourself… and value your time and worth!”

Dream Sources: Any Australian home decor line that I can’t get my hands on over here. Croft House furniture, more Blockshop textiles and prints, and tiles galore!
