When Ares was on the hunt for a larger apartment for her growing family, the search was initially a bust. Nothing seemed to be what she was looking for, that is until this unit came across her radar. Which is kind of surprising considering the state of the space when she found it. The apartment had sat empty for awhile and the kitchen and bathroom were in sore need of a remodel. But Ares saw past the outdated designs; she loved the light and the spaciousness of the living room.

Thankfully, she was able to strike a deal with the owners in exchange for renovating the kitchen and bathroom. The owners got a beautifully updated space, and Ares got a home renovated to her taste! She admittedly spent (much) more money than what she had expected (isn’t that how all remodels go?), but she adores the outcome and enjoys living in this apartment so much…it was worth it.

The open, airy, and almost-all-white living room is the hub of this home; everything from relaxing to entertaining happens here. For Ares, this is her oasis in the middle of the city…and it’s full of light and peace.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: I love the rustic theme. Mixing wood with iron and simple furniture.

Inspiration: I like antique shops. But the real thing is that I go with the flow…I’ve owned most of my furniture for so long that all the things that are new have to match with what I already have.

Favorite Element: The dining table.

Biggest Challenge: The bathrooms and kitchen’s renovation. I had no clue on what to do at the time! We lived for a full month without bathrooms because they were not finished; that was a really big challenge!

What Friends Say: They love how bright and open the living room is.

Biggest Embarrassment: The sofa! I hate it. It’s the first thing I will change when I have the opportunity.

Proudest DIY: The mirror at the entrance. I painted it with my own hands and I am very proud because I’m not handy at all!

Biggest Indulgence: Everything in my house is an indulgence!

Best Advice: Try to take time with decor. I’m a little bit anxious and I want everything right now, but I think that with patience and time it’s so much better.

Dream Sources: Seneca street in Barcelona, such amazing shops.
